Back from under the rock!

Hi all,

Wow....i've been gone for a very long time. Do apologise once again for hiding under the rock. Handling a webstore has really been a very tedious task BUT i've enjoyed it.

I turn back and look at The Scrapbook Carton and it looks bigger now, we have more items on the store and we are looking for new sources of scrapbooking materials that you all love and how we can bring it in at much lower cost and share the savings.

This being election season in Singapore and we are being so caught up in which party to vote for. I would love to have my own version of my manifesto for The Scrapbook Carton that we are already there and working towards.

The Scrapbook Carton's 2011 3 Manifesto

1) Keep the webstore a webstore

Why are we doing that? Isn't it better to have a brick and mortar store for us to ransack and touch/feel all the lovely scrapbooking materials? Yes, it is good to see what you are actually buying.

But look at it this way, when the next time you are in any physical store and just turn your head and look upwards and just stare at the light bulb(not too long, or you might go blind. haha!), wondered what is keeping that light bulb on? What about the cool air that you are feeling which is gushing out of the shopping centre's air conditioning? Someone must be paying to keep all these things there for you to enjoy your shopping experience. Especially in Singapore, we all know rents aren't cheap and all these flow down to the end consumer.

For us, keeping it a webstore helps us to really keep things low and we really look to passing on this benefit to our consumers so that can get more materials for all their works.

2) More.

This is simple, more discounts, more promos, more products. More of what we all love.

3) Enjoy while we are at it

In life we are always facing challenges and difficulties, we can't possibly have lesser problems cause this is totally part and parcel of life. Since we are here, just make sure we all enjoy what we do. We really love it when you guys get a good deal from us and enjoy your scrapbooking. Of course, i have seen the commercial aspect of this industry and I really want to shield it all from it cause it can get ugly.

Just remember, we are the masters of our own destiny and we can always make a choices. When you are scrapping, make sure you are really enjoying it. That's what scrapping is all about. Don't lose why we are scrapping for. It's love, it's family, it's friends, it's all about the ones we hold dear.

Wow! it's been that long

Hi everyone!

It's me again. Do apologise for disappearing for such a long time. It's been long and we even passed a birthday without a blog entry from me/us.

Let's just say we were busy doing what we do best(keeping scrapbooking material more affordable) and we know you like it cause the response we get from you all is tremendous and I can say this is absolutely a busy period in my life.

I will do my best to keep you all updated what's in store in the new year ahead and do let us know on our facebook pages any views or comments so that we know what you really like and don't like.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes!!! Makes me feel glad that all the effort we have been through is totally worthwhile!

Looking forward to a year of more scrapbooking supplies with all the great savings!

5 Months....

Wow....I just sat here and it dawned upon me that The Scrapbook Carton has been around for 5 months. Although the store didn't grow physically like many other but in the short 5 months, The Scrapbook Carton has changed the lives of the people who makes it running day to day.

It has been a tremendous trip....the changes we have to make day to day...the wedding we went through in the midst of running this outfit and I guess the sacrifices we make..

It never has been possible for The Scrapbook Carton to change the life of our supporters as much as it has changed ours....but I hope the supplies that we have been pushing out have..From the memories it helps you all create.

That's why I am so persistent on pushing out the plans for The Scrapbook Carton....We will keep doing our best to keep what needs to be low and increase the selection as we go by.

Thank you all for giving me and my team this 5 months to serve you all and we wish to keep this going on for all your memories....

P/S: Sorry if i've been quite sentimental in this entry...I was listening to "Flightless Bird, American Mouth by Iron & Wine"(all you Twilight fans will know what I'm talking about...listen to it..it's nice)

With so much choices of floral patterned paper & embellishments as we scrap, it’s never difficult creating a flowery LO for your that very special moment. So come join me in my challenge as I celebrate the love of 2 people in this challenge with flowers.

Guidelines:

1. Work on a 12”x12” cardstock as your layout background
2. Record a moment through your LO (it can be anything about your family, a special day, or that of your dear friends)
3. It’s a must to have flowers on your LO (your choice of using anything floral from patterned paper, to handmade blooms, to die cut flowers just as long as we see FLOWERS!!!)

Time Flies.....

Time flies.......guess alot of you hear this pretty often and agree with it....it's been very very long since I have blogged on the Carton blog and many of you must be wondering why this big disappearance.

Well....let's just say someone just had a very big rite of passage and we were clamoring to get back on track after this big break...it wasn't easy but we really thank everyone for understanding and showing the continued support.

With the rate everything has been going on,it makes me think that I've been bashing through life......4 months of The Scrapbook Carton...Weddings... It's really great that I've done much all these months but thinking back I feel alittle regret that I didn't take time to enjoy all that 4 months of my life. I really enjoying taking this little breather now writing this post and reflecting.

I think many of us are just bashing through life and it's totally unavoidable in a fast paced society and I guess scrapbooking is an avenue for all scrappers to slow down and capture all that special moment.

Sad to say....I'm no scrapbooker(I admire you guys but I'm really terrible with the scissors)...but I guess for me, I resort to photography....To me my camera is my time machine to the past and brings me joy when I look at the photos that I have taken. It's transports me back to that special place in time....

Where we remember the sobs the little ones have....

Or the moment of unity.....

Or even that moment which seems meaningless to everyone.....

Do take some time and enjoy life.....we may be busy now..but we do have still enjoy whatever we do.

If you are wondering why are we doing a store wide sale in the middle of no where....well...it's our little way of saying sorry for the coming month, April.

In April.....something big is going to happen to one of our member personally and we will be all pitching in helping out. We have decided to some temporary processing closure dates and there will also be lesser self collection dates next month as due to the temporary closures. Really sorry that this will disrupt some orders delivers during the processing closure dates, but we will do our upmost in getting everything out before the closure dates and also process the order as soon as possible when we get back.

Just to clarify, the online store will be still online and you can still place your orders just that there will be no order processing/delivery and self collection during the temporary closure dates. Everything will be as normal except on all those specific dates.

Growing the Carton

I guess you all would know by now that we have Prima onboard The Scrapbook Carton. I am very thrilled by this new addition and I hope you all would be too. The Scrapbook Carton has been going on for slightly more than a month and this process of growing The Carton has been really a fulfilling one.

There has been many happy moments and tough times that we went through while building The Carton. Having a new brand onboard really shows that growth The Carton has made but with all this growing that we will be doing, I always remind myself of one thing important:

"Less on Us, More for You"

We can add more brands and have more interesting events(The School of Carton Classes, Social Scrapbooking etc etc...) but it is important that we keep on a tight rope and not over burden ourselves with extra cost which would only end up trickling down to the end consumer. It is never fair to your true blue supporters over unnecessary business cost when your supporters are only people who create keepsakes for loved ones. We would love to pass on the savings to our supporters at the end of the day.

We will keep expanding the brands we have onboard and we will continuing sending those Cartons outs to our supporters with the vision of "Less on Us, More for You"

Beyond Memories.....

I've always mentioned that the basic of scrapbooking is creating a memory keepsake which is very important to each one of us......and I've learn alot of life from this amazing hobby. The wonderful things that a scrapper does.....

Not too long ago.....I was amazed by 2 scrapper, Yin Wen & Geraldine(who are also our teachers in The School of Carton). I was amazed by their friendship and bond. They have known each other for slightly more than 6 months but the sheer friendship that they share between each other cannot be described. It was scrapbooking through scrapbooking that they got to know each other as friends.

Sometimes it amazes me that something as simple as snipping and gluing of paper can build such bonds.......guess till now as I keep walking down this road, scrapbooking keeps showing me the other side of people to people relationships.

Somehow all this inspired me to create Social Scrapbooking. I wish to give other scrapper a chance to meet other scrapper's out there and maybe a chance to build new relationships and bonds with other like minded.

First I would like to introduce our very first Guest Designer of the Month, Joanna Lee!

She will be coming out with a layout next week to give everyone inspiration and introduce us to her style of work. Do visit her blog to see some of her work.

I really wish to bring scrapbooking back to the basics of scrapbooking. I was chatting with someone today and she told me that scrapbooking has become highly competitive within the community, everyone is comparing the style of work, effects they put onto their layouts etc etc.....

But isn't scrapbooking about retaining the memory of that precious moments..... That's why I started The Scrapbook Carton....I want to bring back the basic...one carton at a time..I remember creating a competition at the start asking everyone to tell their story from their scrapwork and the judging criteria gave a higher scoring to whoever content was better. The layout/design was secondary. That is because I wanted to bring back the culture and real ideas of scrapbooking.

I find memories are precious. Just as everyone, I have problems and tussles with my Dad. I go home from work feeling angry from our strained relationship.....but it's the memories of my happy times that bring me to the real truth to our relationship. It is beyond what happens at that heated moment but the memories when you think back.

I don't scrapbook but I know scrapbooking is really about treasuring those memories and I want to bring forth this cause I know how important those memories are to us.

Hope there are people out there who feel the same....and bring forth this message to every scrapper and bring back the basics......Inspire others with the basic and remind them of the memories and go beyond the desire to compete......and always to share your work with the intention to inspire others with your memory and not the design.

Take a first step and share us your story. Inspire.

Carton Collection.....

This is alittle late......but we had our Self Collection Wednesday a few days ago but I was too busy the last 2 days feeding hungry guest at my New Years Eve party that I didn't get to update the blog. Sorry, Sorry!

Anyway we had our own Carton Girl to conduct our Self Collection! Ta-Da!

The bad thing about it is that she will be only able to help us out for one more Self Collection Wednesday cause she'll be back to school so we'll be finding someone else to fill the shoes.

Self Collection is a great alternative to getting your scrap supplies, you totally SAVE on the shipping charges. I remembered in one of my post, I questioned why did I create The Scrapbook Carton....I thought really hard and I penned it into a letter to all scrappers...

Hi Scrappers,

I believe many of you by now would have entered into The Scrapbook Carton and gone through the website, you might have made purchases or maybe hesitating to wonder if all this is real. Yes.It is real.

I sometimes wonder to myself why am I doing all this? True honest fact, I am not a scrapbooker (Surprise! Surprise). I’ve dabbled in it once in a long while due to the influence of the women in my life. I’ve never got addicted to it.

So why go through the effort of creating this? Go through 6 months of planning. Taking time of my day job to get this entire project together when I have no passion for it? I’ve been thinking about all this while moving this project along. There was alittle spark within me that kept me going and pushing ahead.

What is this little spark I speak of?

I am amazed by scrapbooking shown to me by the 2 closest women in my life. They would spend hours and hours snipping, trimming and applying ‘’magic’’ on the supplies they have purchased. They are doing it all for the ones they love around them. It touches me deep inside. I believe this is so for all the scrappers out there, they are doing it for the memory of someone special.

When I built The Scrapbook Carton, I made sure it has the same type of Love that each scrapbooker puts in. I think its time we return some of this love back to every scrapper out there.

When you receive a carton from us, I sincerely hope you can feel the love we put in getting it to you.

Carton Challenge: What's the Story?

Guess.....we really love you all that the lucky draw isn't the only way you're able to score some free scrapbook supplies this week.......we're issuing a challenge!

Do up a layout of 12'' x 12''....... The theme is really up to you, tell us a story behind your layout. Go further than the techniques and embellishments found on your layout as it won't be the most important in this challenge. Go deep with this challenge and score on the content to win this challenge

Judging Criteria:

Design/Composition: 40%

Content/Story of Layout: 60%

Highest Scoring Entry stands to win: 6 sheets of American Crafts Pattern Paper from I Heart You range, 1 set of I Heart You Chipboard embellishment, 1 mix pack from Pak of Nik Nak and 1 Bottle of Dew Drops. Only 1 stands to win.

When you're done with your layout..... Go ahead and post it on The Scrapbook Carton's Wall with the story and the picture of the layout. Closing Date for this challenge is on 13th Dec '09. The winner will be annouced on 14th Dec '09.

29th Nov will be remember as the day The Scrapbook Carton is mentioned to a small group of friends and families.

Although it is not the day which The Scrapbook Carton opens its doors to the public but it will be remember for the great support and fun we all had on that very day......
